FSB front rotor removal - tapiot - 08-24-2008 '89 FSB 302 33" Some dufus didn't put inside pad on left front wheel, metal on metal, scored the heck out of the rotor. Thefore, need new rotor. Never pulled a front wheel off a 4x4, don't want springs come flying out on me. Learning as I go...we're not experts until we've done it a couple times. Pins on calipers, do I need twist them 180 degress or how do I get the darn things out? Got Chilton's and Hayne's manuals, Autozone pictures but I'm still lost. Project truck for me and son (his first rig), prefer to not take it in and have someone do it for us. We learned all about rear brakes, now we're learning about the front. Any special tools needed? Then take the hub with rotor to pep boys, get new rotors (might as well do both sides), get them to swap the rotors, then have them turn them, come back and reinstall? I've got a lot of questions, few answers. Any help is appreciated....son works weekends, doing brakes currently in autotech at school but no idea how to pull the pins on the calipers. Need someone that has "been there, done that" cratchhe: Thanks in advance! :banghead: Tim T. FSB front rotor removal - DeTowman - 08-24-2008 HIS IS AN 89 IT DOESN'T HAVE THE BOLT & SLIDE IT'S GOT THE 2 METAL SLIDES WITH RUBBER IN BETWEEN...IT HAS A NOTCH ON EACH SIDE, USE A PUNCH & HAMMER TAP THE NOTCHIN THEN DRIVE IT OUT THE OTHER SIDE. I WOULD BUY NEW HARDWARE EVERYTIME I DID THOSE PADS AS THE RUBBER HARDS WITH HEAT....IF U HAVE PROBLEMS CALL ME I'LL TALK U THROUGH..843-450-1076 ....DEAN......:rebel: FSB front rotor removal - tapiot - 08-24-2008 [quote=Gubni]Ok, first thing is to remove the outter hub. Most use and allen wrench. Then the outter ring is a real pain. It's just inside the lip. Use a pic or small flat tip screw driver to get under the edge and pry it out. /QUOTE] Sounds like this is gonna be a lot of fun NOT! :crying: Need to go pick up some C clamps so I can press the piston back. No rear pad on the left rotor...which started this whole process.... Tim T. FSB front rotor removal - tapiot - 08-24-2008 Is that a circlip that keeps the axle nut from backing out? I'll n ever have to do this again, I bought the special socket :hysterical: So I suppose I need a set of snap rings pliers.... Tim T. :banghead: FSB front rotor removal - DeTowman - 08-24-2008 it's really not hard I think you are scaring yourself with this...My first sugestion is to buy a manual for your truck it will be a lot easier if u see how it goes together..... advance has books in thier stores u can look at...:rebel: FSB front rotor removal - tapiot - 08-24-2008 Uncharted territory for me....couple more days and I can say "been there, done that"....baby steps....:hysterical:cratchhe: FSB front rotor removal - tapiot - 08-25-2008 Are the inner and outer bearings the same? Son picked up two bearings for front but autozone didn't specify but I'm hesitant to assume....I didn't clean them up to look....thanks for the assistance...it was invaluable... Tim T. :drinkbud: FSB front rotor removal - DeTowman - 08-25-2008 i think they are the same..it's been awhile for me..as a rule if 1 bearing is larger than the other it is the inner bearing...best thing to do is check the numbers on your old bearings to be sure........make sure u replace the races & seals.....since you are this far you might as well pull the spindle & do the torrington bearings on the stub axle.....AND USE SOME GOOD GREASE! i use kendall super blue!!:rebel: FSB front rotor removal - tapiot - 08-28-2008 Got bearings in place, threading nuts back in, don't have enough thread to put on second nut. Replaced races and bearings and seal, new studs. Rotor rubbings slightly on dust shield, think studs haven't quite bottomed out... Not sure why I don't have enough thread...ideas are welcome..... Tim T. cratchhe: FSB front rotor removal - tapiot - 08-28-2008 had some extra pieces in the way:drinkbud: Just a little short of getting the outer snap ring in place now....oh, so close... |
