Turn and Burn???
#71
Wow. In a little more than a week, it will be here!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who? This will benefit Chuck's (or is that Lisa's???) 77 Bronco.

What? A fun packed day of goofing off and getting some stuff done turning wrenches.

When? Saturday Oct 1. Plan to be here at 9:30 or so and working till we get done- hopefully around 5pm. Grilling party/BBQ (depending on where you grew up) to follow.

Where? My shop/house. 15214 Cabarrus Rd, Charlotte NC 28227. I am only a couple of miles off the 485 beltway, above Matthews, NC. My house is a blue vinyl 1.5 story house with a tan 3 car shop in the back. I'll park an EB out front- you should have no trouble seeing that! You can park on the side of the yard. I have a gravel drive that leads to 2 houses behind mine.

Why? It will be a great opportunity to thank Chuck/Lisa for all their work on putting this club together!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for a few details that still need unpacking. Chuck is going to bring some hamburgers/hotdogs. If you want some fancy types of meat, plan on picking something up. I might grill some chicken, but probably not a bunch. I'm not a red meat type of person. For those that like a big fat steak, we do have the Harris Teeter or the Food Lion each about 6 miles from the house if you need to pick something up.

The primary things we need are side items, as listed below. This isn't a complete list by any means, so if you want to bring something not listed, let us know. FYI, I do have a fridge in the garage that has sodas and some water in it. I don't really drink, so if you do it is BYOB. Chuck might be bringing some Bud. Items to consider are as follows:

- snack stuff (for while we are working)- cookies, crackers, (Nick H bringing pretzels)
(Jay T bringing Chili)
- potato salad
- veggie dish
- caserole or something
- beans (Nick H bringing those)
- dessert (Robert bringing some Pound Cake)

Don't be shy on volunteering for a food.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tools should be covered. If you feel the urge to bring something, probably bring a drop cord or air hose, a drill (and bits), a wire brush, and some hand tools. IF nothing else, bring your saftey glasses and a pair of gloves. I have rubber gloves and ear plugs here.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I need from you all:

Please let me know if you plan to attend and what you can bring for food. If you have any questions or commments, PLEASE let me know. I can grill, but if someone really likes to, let me know and the grill is yours. I have a regular 2 burner propane grill. If you want to do something fancy, let me know. Please come, even if you feel like you have little to no wrenching ability. It will be a great opportunity to learn and have fun!!!

Charles,
Are you opposed to me and Firefighter coming up on Friday and tearing something up? I'm sure we can find something to contribute to Saturday's Turn & Burn.

blazinchuck Wrote:thanks guys...here's a quick list(keep in mind..the suspension is the most important deal)

completely bolt in roll cage

replace ujoint on drivers side

inspect and repack wheels bearings(both sides)

remove 5.5" leafs and install 3.5" leafs

remove 5.5" coils and install 3.5" coils/Duff coil mounts

install new radius arm caster bushings(ordered-be here Mon 9-26-11)

install one of the 2 adjustable track bars...which ever works best for angles

grease all bushings in leaf springs/shackles

fab up air tank mounts/small skid plate

I'll probably have the dual exhaust and twin sticks done(maybe)(this is done-completed yesterday)

install CJ mirrors on side on windshield frame(these are ordered, be here Mon)

Also added...replace D44/9" pinions seals, and might replace D20 output seals if i can get those in town.

might have to replace front and rear shocks too...
I have the long travel front shocks w/f250 towers. the shocks are too long now and will bottom out once we lower the truck. not sure what length of shock i will need once lowered.

this is a basic list, may change a lil as i might be forgetting something
back to the top ...list updated, thanks guys

if you want to come up Friday, that would be awesome. i'm sure that there will be some prepping of the garage that will be going on. I've been working on it some, but it would be cool to have it ready to go- ie- cleaned up, organized, and ready to rock.

We should have a decent crowd coming out. I know that it will for sure be Nick H, Clay (for some of the day), Robert, Keith, and myself. Chuck will be there of course and several others have said they were coming, but I'd like them to chime in for sure. I'm expecting about 10 or so. Can't wait!

OH, a few other thoughts. I'm hurting for folding chairs/tables. If anyone has any that they could bring along for putting snacks out on and eating off of, let me know. We could open up the last garage bay for a lounging area.

Also, does anyone have a tub of grease or a grease gun to bring along, feel free. I've got some stuff but grease always seems to run out at the most inopportune times!

Well I'm damn good at straightening out a dirty garage! Only thing I would like to work on is some dirty hardtop (HT) posts. Before I come up I may run by Denis Carpenters to get some seals. I need the seal b/ HT and windshield, bottom seal for HT door, door seals and all other kinds of seals!!!!!

Charles, how far away are you from DC?

I am about 15/20 minutes from Carpenters. Not far at all. You are welcome to use the media blasting cabinet to clean up the posts, if you have them with you.

I may just do that. I'd like to have these posts very clean before painting. I'd like to powder coat but painting will be fine.
