They are angled to driver but my yellow top optima is toastado and reading about 10v. old girl has served me well for about 8 years though.
Turns out I have been over cooling my transmission for about a year seeing as I ALWAYS have the fan running on the cooler. The trans takes about 15 miles to actually get to 185 degrees and likes to chill around 200 +/- as a normal operating temp. Installing the thermostat and gauge was definitely a good idea.

Not really going to go into details about the anti-theft other than it is an ignition kill system and to talk about it would defeat the purpose.
Got the rear seat installed and working on the LATCH anchors for the kids' car seats. More to come...

Went to chase down a vacuum leak and, in the process, noticed a strange noise coming from the transmission. It was making a whining metal on metal sound. I found the transmission had separated from the bell housing by about 1/4". I pressed up on the bottom of the pan and the noise went away. I guess it was all that stress on the shaft and bearings causing the noise.
Anyway, I suspect it was caused by the bolt I extracted last year. If you recall, one worked its way loose and I had to bore a hole in the bell housing to fish it out before it destroyed the converter. Either they were all loose and bound to come out or the missing 6th bolt allowed the others to come loose too.
I removed the transmission last night and fixed the issue. Oh how I had forgotten how miserable it is to remove that transmission with out a transmission jack and an extra hand.
Can't wait to do it all again for the 4R70W this spring. I think I will spring for a proper jack though!
BTW- Changed the rear main seal while I was in there since it is a one piece seal.

how was the rear main seal? fairly easy? im gonna do mine before i swap the 306 in.
get your battery taken care of? replace it?
and, im guessing you never found the vacuum leak?

Fairly simple. Just be super careful not to nick or score the bore or crank. I used a combination of a flat head screwdriver and a seal puller and inched it out a bit at a time all the way around. For the install, I did not have the proper tool nor could I find a pipe large enough so I just lubed it up and used a 3/8" extension as a drift and eased it in slowly (that's what she said). It took a while but the extra time is worth not screwing this up. Make sure you lube it up too!
No battery yet. I have the two batteries ready to install but still deciding on how I want to do the dual setup and charging system.
Vacuum leak? Ya right. F dat!!

In regards to the charging system, consider a battery isolator, ran one on a Mitsubishi 4wd with a winch for about 10 years. Nothing like running the winch battery dead and being able to start the truck on the main battery without issue. And if the main battery dies you can always jump from the auxiliary battery. I ran a deep cycle battery for the winch( before optima batteries ever existed.)
