I hear the later 351s were made lighter but are less solid

Think I'm going with the '72 351 block and heads we have here but put in a roller instead of flat tappets

Been three days, whats been going thru your bronco brain? Decided on motor? Whats the advantage with rollers?

just researching and thinking it over
have the '72 351W here already at Dallas' and theyre going to send it over to the machine shop this week
the older 351 blocks seem to have a better alloy (nickel alloy??) or something which makes them sturdier than the later models and this particular block looks very good

i wanted the roller cam if feasible in it for various reasons (horsepower, efficiency, engine wear) but wasnt sure if it was possible in an older block
so i was thinking about a crate engine, but honestly is it worth that expense and all for a non-racing street rig? probably not
i thought those boys at Dallas' did a super job with that 302 build for the '65 mustang a couple of months ago so Im 90% convinced im going with their 351 block
still have questions about the exhaust and heads but theres still time
to think through all that
meanwhile, im still daily driving with the 302 and keeping a close eye on the oil pressure and engine temp

I wanna know more about the disc set-up, my 74 had the front converted but not finish. Now i have the Corvette MstCly and the proportioning valve. not going with pwr brakes at this time. Got to figure out the proper plunger for the mst cyl.

im not sure bout a corvette MC, when i changed to chevy disc up front...i used the late 70's f250 MC. i went to power when i went to 4Wdisc. i currently have a 77 with stock disc/drum

I got the parts from LMC. I think now it just finding a universal push rod for it that has the flat head for the brake light switch. thanks Tim (DWB)

The vette cylinder can be used for a 4 wheel disc setup. if you are going disc/drum, i've had great results with a stock 76-77 master cyl, as those trucks came from the factory disc/drum.

Irmo, you can put an aftermarket roller cam in your 72 block, but you are going to be talking $$$. I'd keep it flat tappet and spend some money on some good heads/machine work. An engine build is only as good as the builder who does it. Make sure whoever does it can resize rods, has a nice boring machine, decks all the surfaces, etc. It would take quite a while when we rebuilt an engine (mostly performance stuff) at the shop I worked at years back.

There was a higher nickle in blocks made up untill the early 70's, then ford dumped them into mexico cars. Mostly due to emissions. My 69/66 302/289 is all roller, you can do it but like Bart said its not cheap.
For a cheaper 4wheel disk master try the lincon mark 8. There is a whole science to putting together disk brakes. Just cause a master is for all wheel disk doesnt mean it will work as good as another. You have to know bore and stroke of the master in regards to the piston size of your caliper. I have a write up in the tech section of my disk brake setup. I have studied this with Randall Thomas a bunch and for the best results spend some time reviewing your parts before you buy. You could end up with a very hard pedal that just wont stop.

ive seen the work from the machine shops these guys are using and it looks good

im clueless when it comes to heads...what should i be looking/asking for?
