Fuel cost
#11
So basic supply and demand coupled with historical profits of the oil companies. Does it really matter if they charge more for diesel. They have all motorists, trucker or not, by the balls either way. Just make all gas the same freaking price. I don't even look at the prices anymore when I fill up. I would rather not know what I am spending.

Ignorance is bliss.

Diesel is basically waste fuel.

You also have to figure in that today's diesel is not the same fuel as a couple years back. The government mandated the upgrade to the Low Sulfur grade. Way back around '91-92, they dropped the sulfur content in about half. Then in '04 and '07 they passed the latest regs. Look for more in 2010.

Mercedes/Benz actually quit importing diesels to the US because our grade of fuel had to many contaminates/particulates in it. Diesel is also the major fuel in most other countries around the word.

I saw $3.99 in Gastonia yesterday also. I'm glad I live 6 miles from S.C. state line. Smile

I saw $2.59 in some middle of nowhere town on the Oklahoma/Texas border last weekend.

It had been closed down for some time.

With these gas prices I'm not sure I want to come home and have to drive to work again even if I have a 4cyl.

OK I thought it might be time for a store owner who sales fuel to post up no one has mentioned us yet but I thought I'd tell about our side of the coin. PLEASE don't blame us as a whole (even though some will pad the price when the market goes up!) we try to keep the prices competitive in our local area, but we don't make any real profit on gas & fuel sales. Here's is an example of my last load delivered 7012 gallons of gas @ $3.0595 cost per gallon, price at the pump $3.099 profit of .0395 per gallon for total of $276.97, 998 gallons of diesel @ $3.4935 cost per gallon, price at the pump $3.599 profit of .01055 per gallon for total of $105.29. So I have a total cost of $24939.73 and a profit of $382.26 thats 1.5% profit, it doesn't even pay the power to run the pumps & the pump & canopy lights and Lord help if we have a couple of drive offs because it shoots our little profit to HELL! Also it doesn't matter if we sale it our not our supplier wants his $$$$$ anyway. I could ramble on & on about the fuel market how it's priced, when it's priced, state & federal taxes, super-fund fees, environmental fees, split load fees, off load pump fees, tank & line test fees, etc etc etc but I've vented enough. Sorry for the length, but the MORONS that come to our store just PISS ME OFF TALKING GAS PRICES and they don't have a CLUE! Just remember the words of an old TV ad......

HAPPY MOTORING !
