I have a 2000 TJ with 33's and a 5 speed that I have flat towed all over the country.
I pulled it here from New Mexico.
I put the Transfer in Neutral, Trans in gear, key to first click to unlock the steering.
I don't pull the shafts or anything else and have never had a problem towing it thousands of miles.
This is also my daily driver so if there was a problem, I would know about it.
