Jumping in here a little late, but yeah, a larger diameter tire is better than duallies.
You still have no weight to get the duals to grab, but a larger tire will lug you off the line and between shifts enough that they will stick.
Had put a allison in a F250 behind a 6.9 that was tweaked a little. It would chirp the tires every shift.
We turned it into a dually and it did not help it a bit.
So we ended up putting 22.5 lo pro semi tires on it. Keep in mind this was 1986 when 22's were just not done.
