For those of you that don't know, the forest service relies on our volunteer hours to allocate funding from congress for the subsequent fiscal year. Each man-hour equates to $$$ for the Uwharrie budget.
For example: There were 40 people at the work day last Saturday. Assuming all worked approximately 8 hours each (320 man-hours), Uwharrie will be awarded almost $2,500.00!!! Sure, that does equate to somewhere in the ballpark of $8/hr but we have fun helping out and it is mutually beneficial for all parties involved.
