The C-4 for towing is just fine. It was put in practically everything Ford made for 30 yrs. Properly built, kits, it can handle up to 500 hp. No need for that with a 3K lb boat for 3 miles. Just put a tranny cooler on it and be done. No need to spend money fixing something that isn't broken. Suspension- start over. Too easy to do. Disc brakes: I used Ford parts from a D-44. May have been more expensive because I listened and took the word of a pretty shady Bronco parts house employee hawking parts on the side. But it works now. The passenger car C-4 would need a very expensive main shaft. Bronco C-4s were Bronco ONLY. Short because of the Tcase behind them. If you want to go that route I have one. Small block C6 same story. Stronger trans but not needed for the street on 33s.
74 Bronco Ranger halfcab w/toys: lockers f&r, wristed arm, C4, D20, hyd assist steering, 37"MTRs, warm 302. Capability, that's what I'm talkin' bout.
