I know you guys do make squat on the gas. Isn't it true you depend mainly on the store contents (bottles water, etc) to keep things going? Gas is just what gets the customer to your store.
Funny enough, a military benefit many of you probably know about is tax free purchases on base at the commissary and BX/PX (condensed military versions of Kmart and Publix). The only thing that is not tax free on base is the fuel. We pay the same prices as the stations charge off base. If we could get tax free that would take a HUGE chunk out of the price. It has been a sore subject for as long as I can remember and the retailer refuses to discuss the subject. I would speculate they get the fuel tax free from the distributor and pocket the profits. Just my 2 cents of conspiracy theory.
