Maybe he is trying to increase the fluid capacity of his system via additional line like NASCAR folks do with fuel!
I agree, that looks horrible. Surely you slaved those long lines on there for testing purposes until you came to a decision whether or not to purchase the correct lines from a vendor or fabricate them yourself.
Double flaring tools are pretty cheap. The ones you rent are usually abused and worn out unless you get lucky and, subsequently, they will not perform as well.
Follow the directions step by step.
A straight cut is key. Refrain from using a hack saw if possible and use care if utilizing a tube cutter. I prefer a cutoff wheel. Use a flat file to make it perfectly true, if needed, then ever so slightly chamfer the end. If you don't have a deburring tool, a small pocket knife or scribe should do the trick.
If you have coated lines, you will want to sand the coating from the area that resides inside the vice to prevent slipping.
PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO MAKE SURE THE FITTING IS ON THE TUBE BEFORE YOU FLARE!!!
Once the flares are made, nothing should be oblong, offset, or cracked.
Purchase an extra length of line so you can practice. Once you have made 4 perfect flares, move on to the real deal and take care of business.
