Back to School
#1
Well I've received my letter approving my TAA benefits. Now I have to turn in my retraining plan and I will be back in school. I have finally decided to enter the career field of law enforcement. TAA will cover up to two years of training upon approval. So I'm asking to take a 2yr Associate in Arts, Criminal Justice. If this passes I hope to finish out the BS degree at either Catawba here in Salisbury or UNCC. Just in case the buck the AA the community college also offers a Criminal Justice Technology, Associate in Applied Science. Difference is it will not transfer to a University. And if all else fails I can fall back on the BLET class.

I know the longer classes will not help too much in the job search. I will have to start out at the bottom, again. But I'm looking forward at a career 5-10yrs down the road. Who knows maybe I can swing a job with the Feds, State, or maybe a loss prevention for a Corp. I'm looking to build a base for a long career.

Sort of ironic right now. The kids are out of school for the summer and my wife and I are headed back to school. She is in her second year of Dental Hygene. She has worked hard for the last 2 years to get in to the program after working as a dental assistant since high school.

At the ripe old age of 64, There are 2 things I don't want to do. One is work at a job for some one else and the other is go back to school. You have my admiration in both areas! You and your wife is what the American dream is all about, dedication and hard work. We are behind you 100%, go for it!! :xyxthumbs:

One down, one to go. I took the computer skills placement test this morning. Just a test to be sure you can competently use a computer and do not need any remedial classes for computers. My wife had to take one:tounge:. HAHA, I passed with 18/20:xyxthumbs:. Now I take the math/reading placement test Thursday afternoon. Hopefully I haven't forgotten too much or killed too many brain cells.

I am proud of you both. It takes a lot of guts to do what you are doing and admire your drive. Keep focused and motivated and you can accomplish anything.
