Tow Bar Question

Iââ¬â¢m heading to the beach this weekend and will be towing a 95 Wrangler with a tow bar. The Jeep has 31ââ¬Â tires and a 5 speed trans., can I just budge cord the shifter in neutral or should I also put the transfer case in neutral?

i would put the transfer case in neutral as well.

Unlockable hubs?
I would drop the rear driveshaft ... BroncoMatt flat tows alot of stuff he will prolly chime in ...

From reading Jeep Fourms it's best to drop the rear driveshaft, but all gear boxes in neutral and leave the steering wheel in the unlock position. What do you guys think?

If you can dis-engage the transfer case that should do it. That would keep everything from spinning .

I have a 2000 TJ with 33's and a 5 speed that I have flat towed all over the country.
I pulled it here from New Mexico. I put the Transfer in Neutral, Trans in gear, key to first click to unlock the steering. I don't pull the shafts or anything else and have never had a problem towing it thousands of miles. This is also my daily driver so if there was a problem, I would know about it.

I flat tow my eb all the time, but its an auto. No matter what I always un hook the rear shaft. Leave the steering wheel unlocked and the wheel untied. I have locking hubs up front so I can unlock them and put the tranny in park, t-case in neutral. That is just How I do it, your towing a jeep. With out locking hubs I would pull the front shaft up so there is no spinning of the t-case. Just my 2C.

The first time I towed my eb I put the t-case and auto in neutral and did not pull the rear shaft. Because the rear shaft was still turning it puked atf everywhere. I've also heard my t-case gears rubbing when towed with the rear shaft on but auto in park and t-case in neutral. Now I always pull the rear shaft. I say pull it, I unbolt it from the axle and tie it up to the saftey loop.
