URE Sept 19-20
#1
In the other thread I made the comment about finding a date in September that we could spend another day at URE, well, I was on the NC4x4 site and read this
Forest Service workday for this weekend was canceled [August 22-23]. In fact, after talking with District Ranger Walker, Recreation Specialist Savery and Volunteer Coordinator Mark Hall turnout has been so poor the FS is hurting for help. Here's the remaining schedule for 2009, please try to show up for one of these workdays if you possibly can!

September 19th-20th
October 17th-18th
November 21st-22nd
Why don't we plan on being there the weekend of September 19-20 and participate in the work weekend. There's free camping and trail passes if you work on the trails. We talked about adopting a trail as a club, this would be a good way of showing our support of the trails.

Who's in??

You know, I never did hear back from the FS about adopting a trail. I'll get back on that.

I'd be in for the Oct or Nov dates, but can't make September. Maybe we can talk to the FS when we're there about adopting.

Thanks, Nick, for posting this up.

OK I posted this on classicbroncos, hopefully we'll get a good turnout.

"I was thinkig - it's time to paln an informal wheeling trip to the Uwharrie National Forest September 19-20, 2009.

And as luck would have it, they also have a work weekend during that time and thought, I would like to donate a little time and energy to keep the forest trails open by participating in the work day, and thought other locals to the area might be interested in doing a little wheeling and helping out as well.

Word from the district ranger at Uwharrie is that participation on the work days has been so poor that they are hurting for help. They even had to cancel the August work day last weekend because of an expected low turnout of people. The work days are usually just a half day and ivolve mainly trail cleanup, fencing repair and other light duty activities. The rest of the day can be spent riding the trials. If you participate in the work day, they provide a free trail pass for the day and free overnight camping at one of the group camp sites for the day you work, The group camp is primitive camping and doesn't have power hookups, but it does have a shower facility.

For more information about Uwharrie, go here http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/
and for specific info about the trails, go here http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreat...rrie/index.htm

Post up if you are able to go, and we'll let them know we are coming.

Nick"

i might be able to be there on one of those days. trail clean up is simple. you basically wheel and when you see trash you get out and put it in your bag and move on until you see more trash. just a normal wheeling day for most of us anyways

Well, hate to say it, but I'm not going to be able to make it to this one. Long story short. Woke up last Thurs with intense neck, shoulder and arm pain. Spent labor day weekend on pain killers, without much releif. Saw the doc this AM and Tuesday's MRI confirmed a herniated disc in my neck and recommendatoin of surgery. So, bouncing around through the woods probably isn't a very good idea right now.

Hopefully some people will still show and have a good time.
