leaking gas tank

I punched a small hole in the bottom of a tank once. I also used some JB weld and a sheetmetal screw a little bigger than the hole. It lasted for at least two years. I got rid of the truck. It may still be working????

I still gat a strong smell of gas but the holder is no longer wet and it doesnt leave any wet spots on the ground I did price the tanks and brand new they run from $105-$150 so if all else ill put a new one in need to change out the sending unit anyways it only reads right when it is full or almost empty
