Shot a basket rack 8 pt my first trip out this year. It looked bigger in the scope (I think they call that ground shrinkage!) but still a nice rack to bring home. It weighed 170 lbs and took 2 shots to bring him down. The first neck shot just sent him on a run. I hit him again on the run with a 2nd shot that sent him on a roll. First attempt to shoot a deer on the run and surprised myself... but you don't have time to be nervous so pulling the trigger was easier. He is still in complete velvet too.

This was Saturday morning and my friend who went with me missed another 8 point that evening - but his shot was aprox 250 yards so I can't rag him too much!

Gumby, actually from mid-state SC on down Deer Season started on Aug 15th. We have the longest season in the nation. But the problem is that its so dang hot!! WHo wants to hunt in 95 degree weather? Not me thats for sure. Heck besides the heat, the mosquitos, deer flies, no-seeums, gnats and ticks, oh yeah and those damn chiggers! Everytime I check my trail cams I come home with chiggers on my legs! I'd like to see them change the season from Oct 1st to Jan 7th, but thats just my opinion. Hey good luck on dove hunting, i miss doing that with my dad.

SC74, nice deer! All my trail pics have bucks still in velvet. I'm waiting till the temp gets in the low 60s in the morning before I climb a tree. Where do you hunt at in the upstate?

Thanks!

I hunt in Holly Hill (near Santee) on the farm my grandfather grew up on. It's a 2.5 hour drive for me but if I can get 2 or 3 sits in then it's worth it. I only get down there 4 or 5 times a season so when I can go I don't pass it up. Hunting in the hot is not ideal, but it's the best time to see bucks. Between my friend and I we saw 6 bucks on just Saturday AM and PM. Thermacell cures the mosquito and fly problem - it's just sitting there and sweating that makes it so un-pleasurable to sit for long. It won't be long and it'll be so cold that we're bundling up to stay warm!

Nice bag man! I haven't hunted in years but pics like that make me want to break out the bow and dust of the camo.

Nice Buck Robert. Seeing that deer makes my mouth water.:toothy12: My neck has started getting bigger and when it gets a little cooler then I will be ready to go. I have started feeding them over on some land on own and we have got four nice bucks. I will post them up when I get the game came out there. Man I love deer season....

Very nice. I came home yesterday and had a doe and fawn in front yard. Waiting on bow season here
If you can't fix it with a hammer and a welder then your gonna need a new one!

Thanks for the compliments! I'm usually just a "meat hunter" and just like to kill a couple does each year to fill the freezer. You can't kill a doe in SC until Sept. 15 so I almost didn't go hunting but glad I did now! Now I've got the fever again and ready to go back!
