Need a carburetor
#1
EDIT: I GOT A CARBURETOR - ALL IS WELL

So my Holley 600 decided to have sticky floats after letting it sit over the holiday. It's barely driveable, won't idle, etc.

Got a Holley TricKit from Advance, but the instructions are crap and I'm not even sure if the power valve they supplied is the right size. That, and there are no float adjustment replacement parts in the kit. WTF?

Bottom line:
1) I shouldn't be doing carb work myself.
2) I'm not even sure if fixing the 600 is what I should do. I'm in the market for a better carb that'll require less maintenance and good performance as a daily driver. Is that too much to ask?

Any advice, sale, help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

best advice I can give is get rid of the holley for street driving. i have had great luck with the edelbrock carbs and they are super easy to rebuild, should the need ever arise. i have heard the edelbrock carbs don't perform well off road but they work very well for daily driver type applications.

I ran an edelbrock at ure and it ran well just my coil took a crap
If you can't fix it with a hammer and a welder then your gonna need a new one!

I have had a Edelbrock 1406 on mine (600cfm) forever and I like it. Just put one on a friends EB and the installation went smooth. Get the offroad kit and the tuning kit and you will have it covered. They are easy to tune. Get yourself a vacuum gauge and get the idle circuit set right and you will be good to go.

Thanks all for your advice.

Most of today I tried rebuilding the Holley 600 with a kit, and learned quickly that carb rebuilding is something I should watch a few times before doing on my own. Confusedcratchhe:

Went to Advance and splurged on a new Edelbrock 1406 600cfm. Turns out installing a new carb is right up my alley. I even tuned it to passable specs without a vacuum gauge or any kit. I wonder how much better it can get with some fancy tooling. It already runs better than the Holley when the Holley was working fine.

Onward. Need to do disc brakes, exhaust, and find someone who wants these TSL 35x14.50 tires.

Thanks again, all.

I would definitely get a vacuum gage though. It really helps in fine tuning the idle mixture circuit. The idle mixture circuit does a lot more than most people think. You are using part of your idle mixture circuit even when you are cruising down the road at low speed. You can get one for like $20 at Advance.
