Installing new Edelbrock intake & carb
#21
Today I purchased a new Edelbrock cam & lifters, as well as a new 3 core radiator. Now I need to get a new waterpump with outlet on passenger side. Any suggestions?

Got a new water pump, SS mounts and new hose kit on the way from Wild Horses. New cam and radiator is on the way. It could be a busy weekend now that Turkey season has started!!!!!!!

Just be sure to use lots of assembly lube, the bearings realy should be replaced any time you change cams. But if you cant do that at least be sure they are in good shape. If your using stock rockers be sure to follow the service manual for the assembly. Always keep in mind your power is limited to the weakest part, if you upgrade the air and fuel delivery you will also need to upgrade the exhaust.

Thx Matt! My uncle is a mustang buff. He was the one who put this motor in this bronco. He told me he put in a mild racing cam in it when he and my dad aquired the motor years ago. With 33s it was very peppy, loud and not good on gas (maybe 8 miles to gal). I mentioned an RV cam and he said now is the perfect time to put a new one in. After getn advice from Charles I contacted Edelbrock and I told them what I wanted and they recommended the Performer Plus #2181. They said it matches their Edelbrock carb and intake mani that I already have. I got the cam yesterday from Summit and it cam with new lifters, camshaft and lube.

As far as the exhaust I hope I have that already covered. I got BC's Shorty ceram headers with BCs pre-bent exhaust tubes leading into a Magnaflo 2 in 2 out SS muffler. I upgraded to a 3 core Al radiator and FlowKooler waterpump. The only thing I have not upgraded is the dizzy, that will be later.

Thx for the advice Matt!
Matthew

Picked up after last weekend. My uncle and I managed to install a new cam (after removing the front grill mind you!) and lifters. I let the lifters soak in oil for about 24 hrs. Put the timing cover back on and next the FlowKooler. We came into an issue with the manifold??? The cast 4barrel manifold I had on it had 16 bolts going thru it, but the new Edelbrock mani has 12??? Went back and forth to Edelbrock's website and could not figure it out. According to his Ford engine bldg book in 1977 the 351W were made differently????? He didn't want to install it but I made the decision to install it. So we did.

The intake manifold went in well, torqued the same bolt pattern that is on Edelbrock's website. I torqued it down to a final 19 ft/lbs after two torque sequences. Capped it all off with the carb and newly painted valve covers. The dizzy went in very quick and so did the cheap air cleaner. It got late and he needed to get home. If it continues to rain tomorrow I may be able to work on it, but if its semi sunny I'm headn to the woods to scout for turkeys!!

I started putting things in place today. The altinator, PS pump, thermostate housing and radiator. I bought new SS radiator mounts from WH that should fit 3 or 4 core radiators. But after today I feel like I got the wrong ones. They are the same size as the ones I planned to replace. My new ones will not work and I need wider ones. This is my first problem I have encountered since putting all this back together. Hummmm.....?
