the 77's upgrades
thanks guys...im actually feeling alot better today. working on that cover today was very nice...a simple job i could take all day on if i wanted. forgot the mention...in the process of removing the steering column i guess i pulled a couple wires apart(fuel gauge, turn signals) so i fixed those while waiting on the rubber undercoating on the tunnel cover to dry.

guess i should remove the auto column shifter tomorrow...lol

Do you have the correct piece to replace the auto shifter with on the column?

So the C4 recipient won't be needing the shifter?

I don't think you are going to see a huge increase in gas mileage. We drive a brick for goodness sake. I doubt you will see anything in the city since most of it will be in 4th (1.00 stock ratio) or the lower range of 5th on occasion. On the highway, I assume you will be in the upper 60's or 70's and though your RPM will be reduced due to the gearing, you are still a huge rolling drag device. I will be surprised if you see more than 2MPG increase at the most on the highway. I think the major advantages are the low gears and the reduction in wear on the engine by reducing RPM for extended cruising periods. It is a great swap though.

true but better gearing in the 5sp(4.01 1st vs. 2.84 C4) and closer ratios for city driving might help out. i really dont see me using the 5th gear right now. been driving around in 4th...60mph is like 1700-1800. thats a 200 drop compared to the C4. so im thinking 4th at 70 will still be 2100-2200. the C4 was about 2300 at 70. so im sure i wont be using 5th for a while.

over all im enjoying the 5 speed. dont know how well ill enjoy it with traffic...but its not my 1st stick shift and i do enjoy them.
