Hell, I'm not even throwing any codes I just wanted to learn how to do this since my other backfiring problem occurred. What originally got me on to this was hoping I could recall an old code that would point me in the right direction.

You don't want to disconnect the battery if you are trying to find codes. the stored codes will be erased.
the manual or auto pin should be plugged in correspondingly to your computer and kept plugged in. that is not the STI plug.

Your ECM (computer) is an automatic version, right? i'm actually running a manual trans version in my race rig, which has an auto trans. they are slightly different, but the main area of concern is that plug that you are referring to. you don't want it plugged into the wrong plug.

those 2 tranny wires are for selecting which trans that computer came from(it it came from a 91 mustang 5sp) then you should have the wire for manual trans connected)...it has nothing to do with which trans your actually running now.

I will double ck, but I think I do have a manual tranny cpu and have the auto wire plugged in. I was told that the manual tranny cpu had a better "curve" for off-road so that's why I think I got a manual. What would it do if I had the wrong wire hooked up?

will the STI wire not be right there with the STO on ryan's harness? Or will it be closer to the cpu?
