anti-wrap bar

i need to make an anti-wrap bar for my rear axle. does anyone have any pics and tips? i've read quite a bit on pirate and classic broncos and a single ladder bar with shackle mounted close to the pumpkin seems to be what's favored to limit axle wrap but allow articulation.

one issue that's not clear to me is the shackle set up. i've read that it should have a heim or johnny joint for articulaton but should this joint be mounted to the frame or anti-wrap aspect of the shackle? or does it matter? this article shows the jj on the bar side of the shackle.

also, most of the bars i've seen are made of tubing, which i don't have laying around. but i do have a load of 2 in flat bar. does anyone see a downside to using flat bar?

Hey man, I built one a while back and is is basicly a short piece of 1.25"x .330 wall tube with heims on each end. It monts to the top center of the rear axle and to the center of my inboard shock mount. it is adjustable and does not limit side to side articulation.

The only problem I see with useing flat bar is the mounting of it. Heims allow the axle to twist but not let the pinion raise up or wrap. If you bolt your flat bar solid it will solve the wrap issue but will limit you on your flex.

do the anit-wraps that connect to the top of the leafsprings at the perch, like the classic traction bars duff offers, cause degredation of articulation more so than what you are considering installing? If so, maybe I should reconsider my setup because my articulation sucks.

My experience with the Duff Classics have been that they do not stop axle wrap. They put a lot of stress on the axle perches. They will collapse letting the axle rotate and throw the drive line.

The double hiem shackle lets my bar float with out any bind. I built it with the TLAR method. I aligned the shackle with CV joint at the rear of the transfer case to minimize change in pinion angle. But with the short wheel base it gives me a high anti-squad figure. This means that when you stand on the throttle the suspension tends to lift the entire chassis extending the rear suspension. This is great for traction on the street. But on a steep hill climb it causes the front to loose traction. One day I hope to remedy this with a well designed link suspension.
