Project "Big Country" - Front Bumper Fab

Time to catch up my build thread on this site. I've been updating Classic and waiting for our new site to catch up CB, but what the heck why wait.

My wife has named it "Project Big Country" ... long story, but it fits!

I've finished the IronBender rear 4 Link and have all 4 tires mounted. Until I get coilovers or air shocks the back of the frame is still being supported by 2x4's, but coilovers aren't something I can afford to order right now nor do I know the spring rates I want until I get more weight on the frame.

We narrowed the grill aprox. 15-1/2". Instead of taking the O and R out of F-O-R-D we took the turn signals out. If I even add a turn light, I'll probably add a rectangle LED light under the headlight.

It's amazing how well a grill fits into a blast cabinet when it's in 3 pieces

We took some wheel wells out of a parts truck and used them to extend the rear wheel wells back as far as possible since the axle has been moved back aprox 11". Those are some huge fender wells but hopefully the 39.5's will stuff in them nicely :lol:

I had to remove most of my rear finder wells for my suspension and roll cage. Are you trying to keep your fender wells?

No specs yet since no weight on the chassis. It's a proto-type kit from IronBender that is actually designed for a 9" and we modified for the Dana 60 so I'm crossing my fingers that Jack has done the experimenting for me. I've got a buddy with some scales so once I get all of my body work done - new front floor pans and some patching I'll get it set on the chassis and weigh each corner for the coil over spring rates.

The front is BC 5.5" springs and Cage long arms.

Carl - I debated on whether or not to dob the rear end or not. I finally decided not to for several reasons - hope to be able to fit a back seat (one seat, not a bench) and want to be able to run a soft top on it. I had lots of cool ideas for the tailgate if I did though!

I'm keeping the fender wells. The center of the rear tire is still not in the center of the wheel well - it's more in the center of the extension piece (16" from rear body mount) so I'm going to have plenty of room in front of the tire to fab something up for a coilover - my coilover will come off of the lower arm, not the axle. If need be, I'll cut a hole in the fender well for the coilover if the upper mount is too high to fit without.

Let's see some pics of yours with the rear quarters turned in! I've always liked that look on EB's built for the trail.
