Project snowball continues to roll :toothy12::toothy12::toothy12:

What experience have people had with doing a new wiring harness install? Painless or Centech Confusedcratchhe:

No pics this time but here's a progress report:
  • Heads are back from the machine shop. Valve job completed
  • New parts thus far Confusedmokin::
    1. HEI distributor
    2. Value covers
    3. Polished aluminum pulleys
    4. Polished aluminum timing chain cover
    5. Flow Kooler Polished Aluminum Water Pump
    6. Alternator
    7. Harmonic Balancer
  • Took transmission for rebuild
  • Cleaned and repainted oil pan. Ford blue of course
  • Cleaned block for repainting (hopefully by the weekend)

Sounds like some great progress. As for which brand harness, I have installed both in stock trucks. I liked the painless better, but that is just my 2c.

According to Summit, the height of the carb kit that I'm interested in is 9" to the air cleaner flange. So I'd need 9" plus the air cleaner height. I have a small hood scoop and I'm wondering if I have enough room for it. With my engine out, it's a little tough to determine. I went under and measured from the top edge of the motor mount to the hood and it's @ 23". Does anyone have a suggestion on how to determine my exact clearance?

I ran a low profile air cleaner with about a 2" element. My air cleaner barely rubbed the center support of the hood. Probably the only way to tell is to get the engine back in. But don't sweat the small stuff.

So you made the setup work without a scoop. I'm probably ok then.

I ordered my intake and carb kit this week.

Edelbrock #350-20344
- Performer RPM Air-Gap Manifold
- Thunder AVS 800 cfm Carb

After I placed the order I had someone ask me if I was planning to add a new cam to the engine. Should I or will the stock cam be ok for this application?

The stock cam should work fine, but if you decide to upgrade, stick with a towing/RV or something like the Comp 4x4 style cam. It will produce more bottom end torque, which is what you need.

Did I read that right? 800 CFM carb?
That sounds way too much for a 351.
You may want to re-think that.
