The 5" Skyjacker lift sucks? Wow - chalk that up to good branding. I always had the perception that they had great kits. (Noob strikes again). What is bad about the 5" lift, btw? My standards are really low, as I'm coming from a lifted 2001 Cherokee that rides pretty smoothly, so anything feels rough/stiff/etc.

Please do send the thread about the tires. Would love to see if it's the right deal. (Wonder if these 35x14.50 Thornbirds are going to be tough to move).

I'm used to towing the boat with the 01 Cherokee which has that 4.0L V6, so I'm hoping the C4 8cyl combo will function ok. More worried about the top speed on the interstate at this point...

Re: brakes, I'll do more homework on the best replacement for my 74. I don't mind modifying/converting - just want to keep the price sensible and the quality (of braking & reliable brakes) high.

A converted car transmission, eh? Didn't know that was an option. Something from a Mustang? (I don't want to make any moves that render me a chump in this splendid world of Bronco toolers. I'd much rather just learn all I can and spit it all back out to the next newbie). Advance Adapters - I'll check them out.

Thanks again.

The C-4 for towing is just fine. It was put in practically everything Ford made for 30 yrs. Properly built, kits, it can handle up to 500 hp. No need for that with a 3K lb boat for 3 miles. Just put a tranny cooler on it and be done. No need to spend money fixing something that isn't broken. Suspension- start over. Too easy to do. Disc brakes: I used Ford parts from a D-44. May have been more expensive because I listened and took the word of a pretty shady Bronco parts house employee hawking parts on the side. But it works now. The passenger car C-4 would need a very expensive main shaft. Bronco C-4s were Bronco ONLY. Short because of the Tcase behind them. If you want to go that route I have one. Small block C6 same story. Stronger trans but not needed for the street on 33s.
74 Bronco Ranger halfcab w/toys: lockers f&r, wristed arm, C4, D20, hyd assist steering, 37"MTRs, warm 302. Capability, that's what I'm talkin' bout.

Yes! That was me - and if I do say so...you've got a near perfect truck (at least at first glance). Thanks for reaching out on here. Excited to make my ride perfect too.

If you can't fix it with a hammer and a welder then your gonna need a new one!

any luck on the tires or locating any other parts?

The tires got sold. Shame - they were exactly what I needed.

Truth is I may want to save suspension & tires for last, ad do the brakes & exhaust first. Probably rebuild the tranny when it needs it - figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I've been out of town for the holiday. Time to start looking for some disc brakes in the junk yards - unless someone's got a system/parts on here...
