306 EFI build
#11
ok, well shawn is picking up my E303 cam tonight.

but, things have taken a twist. i have a new(to me) 3rd with 4.56/posi and some new front gears came today. i need to get/pay for the E-locker from Bart...so i can get these gears DONE.

in talking with ford racing today, they confirmed what Aaron and others said...i need new springs and retainers(a must) the stock springs wont handle the faster/more lift cam.

springs part # 6513-A50(Jegs is 397-M-6513-A50)
retainers # 6514-A50(Jegs is 397-M-6514-A50)
also looking at some rollers Proform pedestal mount 1.6 (# 778-66879)

with all that said, it will cost close to $300 for the upgrades...i'd rather get my front locker:banghead:

...so the plan right now(because i cant leave chit alone!!!:bangheadSmile is the install the 306!!!

motor specs(one more time:thefingerSmile

'95 truck block true roller
stock crank(balanced and polished)
stock rods w/ARP bolts
trick flow roller cam/roller lifters
Crane 1.6 roller rockers
Probe forged domed pistons w/ plasma moly rings
block bored .30 over plus .01 over for NOS
trick flow twisted street head 2.02/1.60
ARP head studs

plan to install GT40 intake, and the accessory drives from the 5.0 im running now. Would really like to have a complete explorer set up(but local yard wants TOO much!!)

here are the cam specs also...

the E303 has a .498/.498

as for the halfcab hotrod. still nothing wrong with a stock 5.0 using the E303 and carb.i can upgrade that later...as it wont be rolling for a while:crying:

lemme know what your thoughts are on this now???

I'm gonna kick your ASS! There is no award for removing and installing the most engines in the Bronco.

BTW- check out the explorer forums. you can get parts dirt cheap. I got an entire front end with PS pump for less than $100.00

Why do you need the 306 in the Bronco? See what the new gears do and go from there. You may be pleasantly surprised, plus, I don't really think the gain is worth the headache. Let's see, wait a few months, stash some $$ and get the springs, or bust your ass and waste your time swapping engines....AGAIN. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

your looking at it all wrong...im not swapping engines over and over. the 306 is built, my 5.0 is stock and needs a cam, springs, retainers, and i would like to compliment that with roller rockers.

so im planning to drop the 306 in and then can slowly build the 5.0 for the 1/2 cab. the only real difference right now are the TF heads and pistons.

besides, i want/need some better sounding motor DAMNIT!!!! if my hotrod was drivable...i probably wouldnt bother for a while...but it aint, and wont be for some time.

the gears wont make any difference in the area im looking at. those will get me better offroad and on road.

Really Chuck? :hysterical: Just because I bought a 5.0 wit a slightly upgraded cam, you just couldn't stand it.

So when are we pulling the 5.0 out and putting the 306 back in?

You are a very motivated man Chuck to do as much as you do with your Bronco! I wish I had half of the motivation you do when it comes to working on my own crap. It will definitely sound sick and get lots of looks. How soon do you plan on swapping?

Call me the pessimist... I dunno how well the EFI would like that. Sounds like a big cam! I don't even think my Chevelle has a cam that big in it. It would probably not be much fun at all off road. Sounds like it'd be right at home in the street rod! Throw some old slick tires on it and get er' done!
