306 EFI build
had some engineers i work with take a look at the board.

looks like one of the capacitors had some corrosion and one leg broke(47uf 16v)
and the another one that was swollen some...(10uf 63v) gonna replace both of those and swap out the last one(another 47uf 16v) looks like it might have some corrosion on it also.

hope this will fix it?:?

well, it didnt work.

replaced 3 caps and tried it. switch the trans wires around again, plugged my eec in and turn the key. the engine light was very very dim, and the fuel pump didnt come on so i stopped and put the borrowed eec back in

also we looked the board over real good, and didnt see and tracers or anything else wrong

Sorry bro. Time to spend some $$$.

THe EEC is usually pretty reliable but I think we put additional stress on a part that is already old. My last EEC was from an 87 and it lasted 24 years!!!

Chuck - way to give it a helluva try!

I work on circuit boards at work that go in construction lasers. There are so many nic-nacs that if you don't do just right, or in the right order, it won't work. The hardest thing is that every laser has different steps or different nic-nacs that I have to read my manuals every time to make sure I'm doing it right. A lot of them require that you be grounded before working on the board. I have a bracelet I have to wear that snaps to a wire and is grounded to our ground rod on the main power source of the building - go figure. Others have short circuit pins that I have to disconnect (or un-solder) before working on the board.

Regardless, that was a hell of a try to repair the old EEC. No wonder you are the GRAND POOBAH!

btt, since my last post on this thread...ive been running BucknEB's A9P that he was holding on to for his EFI install in a month or so.

found out last week another 5.0 stang showed up at LKQ. so went down there and (*surprised*) the EEC was in there...A9L.

long story short-got the EEC for free 8-)

took it outside right then and tried it.

bronco started right up, but had codes...(Ill list those later to help someone else out.)
brought the board into work and found a burned trace in the board. also another cap was broke and another cap was leaking.

the engineer soldered in a jumper wire and swapped the 2 caps. just installed the EEC and cranked it up!!! this time no codes!!! so im leaving it in there to test things out. i still plan to get a new eec soon, but atleast this will give me a good spare.

That's awesome Chuck. Score!!

I won't be needing that A9P anytime soon.Confusedad:

I just found out that I will be working in Idaho for the next 2 months. Yesterday I was getting excited thinking we may be able to start pulling my engine this weekend and begin the 5.0 swap. Not any more.:banghead:
