Was thinking about getting these:

or these

Anyone have experience with either one?

Also, when I took the old ones out, one side had a shim and the other did not. Wondering why....

I have been running Dutchman axles for years. In our Baja racer and in my own truck. Never had any problems.
Most brands are good as long as they stand behind them. But if your going to upgrade the axles why not up grade to 31 spline?

Well I didn't really want to get into changing the carrier right now.

This is the pefect opertunity to do the spline upgrade, if you need to change gears it might be the opertunity to do so as well. I know it is more expensive but if at any point you think you wanna upgrade spline now would be the time to do it.

Guys check this out. I found this Timken tapered bearing which looks like it would be able adapt to a 28 spline small bearing configuration. ID and OD the same with width slightly narrower. Difference could be made up with shim. (.845" stock bearing width vs .719 width for this bearing).

Wonder if anyone has considered this mod for improved bearing.

The problem with the tapered bearing is that they are typically lubricated by the gear oil and have a seal on the outside of them. The standard sealed bearing doesn't have that seal.

Did you check the runout on the axle face without the wheels or drums on to verify that the axle is bent and not a wheel?

Good point. Didn't think of that. I wonder if they would be OK just packing them like you do a front and use the standard seal to keep the gear oil from running out . But then I suppose the grease would run out of the bearings to the brakes sice there's no outer seal.
Yes the runout of the axle face of the right axle was .050. Pretty outrageous.

The bearings would never last. Stick with the bearings you have or try a whole axle swap to a larger bearing axle. This is how it all starts, something brakes, time to upgrade.

I HATE the tapered bearings with my rear discs. That seal is a huge PITA. I am going to be going back to standard very soon.
