This in non-bronco related but does anyone have any experience changing the timing chain on Hondas? I have an '03 Civic and '04 Pilot that will both need timing chains here in the next 13K and am considering accomplishing the job myself. Any thoughts?

I don't know how different the honda is from mitsu... but I've done the belt on an eclipse... certainly doable on your own, but took just about all weekend!

Are you sure its a timing chain? I thought that engine had timing belt. If so, it takes a few hours. I think the engine had to be supported and one engine mount had to be removed to get it on as well.

i think they went to chain after '01 or '02.

What engine? Also, it should have a sticker under the hood saying change the timing belt (XXXXX) number of miles. If its a timing chain, they were setup to be almost maintenance free.

you will need to rig a lifting device to support the cams...you DONT want to get those screwed up! i've done a few on older hondas...nothing too new though.

Your 03 civic(presuming its the 1.7l not the hybred) is a sohc timing belt. Besure to replace the tensioner with the belt.
The 04 pilot is a v6 (sohc too) and it is a belt also. Check the bearings in the idler pullys for the timing belt, they often need replacing.
The 4cy is not too time consuming (half a day), the v6 allow more time. Also a good time to replace water pumps and any hoses that look deteriated.
