I need to cut a hood down to fit the narrowed grill on the mud racer.
Options
1. Use the hood off my bronco-- cut it and weld it back?
2. Cut the new fiberglass hood and repair it?
I know nothing about repairing fiberglass--- how strong would the joints be if repaired?
Need help quickly

My 2 cents ... cutting the stock hood and re-welding was a MAJOR PITA!!!! It also took A LOT of time to do it and get it right. If I had to do it all over again, I would use a glass hood. If anything - you can make your repairs on the bottom side and slick the top of it off to hide your seams.

I enjoy welding so for me I would do the steel hood. But for what your doing (quick build) glass will be faster. Just make sure to reinforce the area where you cut it down. Possibly aluminum braces or lots of mat.

Cutting the glass hood will be easier than the steel mod but if you can weld it aint rocket science. The problem with fiberglass is once you cut off the sides the whole hood sags and makes it look like wavy crap. The easy way to do the glass hood is to put your "New" sides in before you cut it ( Glassing in wood or more glass) and trimming along the lines.
That being said I just had my fiberglass hood repaired from the PO damage ( leaving out the hood pins) by a friend of mine and Roberts that works for Augusta Fiberglass as that is what they do for a living and I dont.He He. I hate fiberglass and you will also once you cut it.I did AC work for 6 yrs and had to quit due to my daughter being highly allergic to the Duct Board I used everyday.
