New Ride 86 Full Size
#31
Drove the truck around Hanahan Thursday, it shifted good, it ran ok but then it stalled and wouldn't start. Got My buddy Eddie to give me a ride home so I could tow it back. Friday got a new starter and solenoid. Burnt two solenoids and now using a spare from my winch, aint gonna burn that one up. Moved the Bronco around the yard and now fluid is coming out from behind the torque converter. So now I gotta put out the tranny and see if its the seal or maybe the pump gasket. The seal looked good but who knows? I think I need to rebuild the carb too. When the engine is warm it doesnt want to take any throttle. Just gotta get all the bugs out, still cheaper than buying a new Bronco! Oh wait, THEY DONT MAKE THEM ANYMORE! :banghead:

Got the transmission out and the front seal was leaking, replaced it. Put the tranny back in. Jammed the torque converter so Sunday pulled it back out, unwedged the torque converter put it back in, got the Transfer Case in now the front yoke seal is leaking, should have replaced it, but I have to now. Got the valve cover gaskets replaced, new starter wires, banged head on frame three times :bangheadSadthis doesnt actually fix anything but some reason I kept doing it, I do have a big fat head), and I should be able to run it tonight to check for more work to be done. Tick, tick, tick goes the count down for Uwharrie. Gonna have a friend follow me around Tuesday with my trailer if it breaks down, I dont trust this truck at all at this point! :whiteflag:

Got it on the Road. Had to replace the coil, it would get tired after about 30 mins. Got a ticking noise from the flywheel trans area. Had to put a washer on one of the torque converter bolts so it could be hitting the starter case, dont know, dont care, it will ware down or break. Other than that it runs great. Gotta get used to the short wheelbase, my other truck is a crew cab. We'll see if it makes it all the way to Uwharrie, got my AAA card in hand!

So this Bronco has been sitting underneath my carport since November when the transmission gave out on the way to Uwharrie. :crying: Actually it sat on my car trailer for a while, almost got rid of it. :whiteflag:
I got caught up on some medical bills and other debts so I can spend a few $$ on it. :chili: Bought a rebuild kit for the transmission and have another nicer 2wd case to rebuild and swap the main shaft into. Will post pics and updates soon. I have been doing mechanical work since I was 17 as a hobby and have always heard the C6 is 'hard' to rebuild (Uncle Dink) It has been my experience that if you research and take your time, nothing is that hard. :argue:
I want to do this myself so that I can say I can do it. :twothumbs:
I also have 2 more to rebuild, Damn I have too many projects :banghead:

I runs again! This da## truck has been sitting for a while! I rebuilt the C6 Transmission over the past month, could easily do it again, but was a PITA to make sure I got it right.
I usually have good luck with fixing up and old vehicle I get for a deal and just start driving it, but this one broke down on me about 5 times now and that just pi$$ed me off, so I put it on a back burner.
It runs great and I need to put the rear drive shaft in it, going to buy six point bolts for the cardan joint instead of the 12 point and get the tag renewed today.
I am having a problem with the mechanical fuel pump not priming itself. If it sits more than just overnight the new fuel pump will not pull fuel. I have a hand vacuum pump that I can disconnect the fuel line at the carb and pull fuel up to it and then it will run indefinitely, once it is primed it works fine. It did the same thing before so I put the new pump on. Short of replacing the tank and the lines I was thinking of putting an electric pump in instead. Any suggestions?
I have been collecting parts for a SAS swap, have the axle, springs, radius arms etc from a 79, but that will be a while.

Nice dude, a C6 rebuild is impressive. good luck with the fuel pump. the fuel lines may be cheaper and easier to replace first. and if its an older truck thats has been sitting a while it may need to be done anyway. just my $.02.
