275 race gone bad
#1
this is my original post on another forum from sat. night >>>>>>>>>

i just got home from dropping moneypit off at the shop. we are lucky to be alive right now. we had a fire in the trailer while traveling down the road over 70mph and had no idea it was even going on. we stopped for fuel and as we were leaving chris decided he needed a drink from the cooler in my trailer. all i heard was THE TRAILER IS ON FIRE !!!!!!! i bailed from the truck and ran to the back with chris. we yanked the door open and you couldnt see the car from the smoke. a trucker was filling up his fuel right beside me so i got his fire extinguisher and tossed it to dale and bigmike grabbed another one from inside the store. i unhooked my dually from my trailer and moved it out of the way. then we poured water all over the back of moneypit to put out the smoldering fire. the flames were already gone due to no air in the trailer with the doors shut to feed the fire . smoke damage all through the trailer and car. there was a full tank of race fuel in the car, 3 full nos bottles, one full propane tank on my grille, one half full can of gas, one generator full of gas ready to blow us clean off the road. gods angels were with us today for sure.

when we got to dales we all stripped the back of the car including the hatch, tail lights, blowed tire, bumper, wing , interior panels. then we vacuumed the car out with a shopvac and washed the entire car inside and out . took us a while. we had another hatch, wing, bumper cover and tail lights so we started swapping it all out. gotta get her ready for 275 race next weekend. [Image: boxer.gif] some re-wiring and she should be good to go minus paint. this is one heck of a team thats for sure. everybody came over to pitch in and help out. thanks everyone. tomorrow we try to clean up the trailer and finish up the car.

moneypit Wrote:Well, as some may know, we didnt have such a good day today. As Mike explained in the other thread, the Pit caught on fire today in the trailer on the way home. How, we dont know. I arrived at Dales today a few minutes after they got home. He didnt want me to see the car, but I had to.When I pulled in the driveway, people were running around my car like we were getting called to the lanes. I was confused. I pulled Dale away and asked, what are you doing? he said , we're fixing the car ! I tried to get him to put the car away. He wouldnt have it.There were a total of 22 people that showed up to help with repairs on the car. They have replaced all the exterior pieces that were damaged, cleaned the interior as well as the engine bay. Dale said that the interior panels, carpet and rewiring the rear of the car was all that had to be done to get the car to Saturdays HRE/CR 275 race. I cant thank these guys enough for their hard work. To be honest, when I saw it, I was ready to retire it.Im sure many of you know, we try to keep her in pretty good condition.I take pride in her appearance and her accomplishments for us @ HRE. Hopefully we can get her back together and almost as good as new.We still havent conquered all of our goals, but she's got us close. Maybe since she didnt explode, its her way of letting us know she wasnt ready to go? She's not done yet ? If thats the case, baby just sit tight, you got Handy Racing !! Thanks again guys for all your hard work.

Still looking for hatch panels, need a black headliner, weatherstripping for hatch. Thanks again for the hard work guys. A little rewiring, put the battery box and battery in it, check elec system THOROUGHLY and it will be ready to crank.

as it sits today > only 2 days later. and my trailer is also repaired and race ready. 22 people came together and did all this hard work in two days. wow what a team !!!!!

God was looking over ya'll for sure. Glad everyone is ok - that's the most important thing. Ya'll did an incredible job piecing it back together for this weekend - nothing like teamwork. Did you ever find the source of the fire?

thanks guys. yes we found the source. the 16volt battery shorted out and caught fire. the power to the car was in the off position so we have no clue what set it off.

i know it might not be funny at the time but it would have been cool to behind the trailer and one of the nos bottles goes flying out the top of the trailer like a flaming cannon ball
