Ok....
You have fire at the plugs but we are not sure if you have it at the right time. It is possible to have jumped timing; I have done it before. Also make sure the #1 piston is TDC and matched with what the balancer markings are showing @ the pointer.
I assume you have air flow so I wont address that other than just make sure you have not pulled a vacuum line loose in the process.
Do your plugs smell like fuel? After all that cranking they should be wreaking. Just make sure fuel is getting past the carb and to the cylinders.
What wires are attached to which posts of the starter solenoid?
Also, please refresh my memory. Was this always an issue (charging) or is it recent?

lf it had a lot of fuel in it, you could have fouled the plugs- especially if they are Champion brand. They are junk. I would bet that a new set of plugs would make it fire. Let it sit for a day or 2, if it hasn't already, so that the excess gas can evaporate. It is kinda hard to believe that it jumped time, though it is possible. I haven't read the whole thread, but the alt. should charge at 14 volts w/the engine running. You are likely chasing separate issues. You can have the alternator tested at advance or autozone if you bring it in to them.

The '77s also had an ignition module on the fenderwell as well as the external regulator on the firewall if not mistaken. Had a Ford station wagon that had an ignition module that would get hot and quit working. After it cooled it would start again. TDC #1 can be right or 180* out. Pull the dist cap off and verify the rotor is near #1 position, balancer mark is aligned correctly then try to start while watching the rotor. It should just rotate as normal. If there is a broken tooth on dist or cam it will skip. I really don't think skipped timing is the issue but easy to check and rule out.

Frankly, skipping is unlikely. If something when wrong with the timing it would be a broken gear or chain. Some of those sets were made of plastic or nylon which can wear down and the teeth can break off and end up in the bottom of the oil pan. Do what Tim said and it will tell you a lot and eliminate the timing as the culprit.

not to overtake your thread but i just done engine swap and all of a sudden mine just started running rich after some investigation i didnt tighten the dist up after adjusting the timing after swap..reset timing and no more running rich. i would have never thought.
If you can't fix it with a hammer and a welder then your gonna need a new one!

Alright folks a little update. Apparently the one plug I pulled was the only one that was close to good. Bought new ones and found the old ones to look real bad and would be gapped from .015 to .038. Put the new ones in and fired without touching the gas. Had to sell a sweet '68 and I received this bronco as a inheritance and drove just a little with as few problems and you could expect from one. Sat for several years after a divorce and when started working on it it wouldn't charge. Got the meter and a tech book I borrowed on testing electrical and going back at it again. Guys, I really appreciate all the help and ideas you have gave me. Seems like around here, no matter what happens to it somebody has had the same problem and willing to help. I hope I can learn enough to contribute to the cause myself.

damnskippy, way to go brother....glad it only took a new set of plugs rather than it being a timing issue!! Now if you can just figure out your charging problem....:rockon: EARLY BRONCOS ROCK :rockon:

Mission complete!! After thinking I had a grounded circuit and crawling all through, under and over this thing, I found a guy who said he had charging problems and had replaced the alternator and regulator with no luck. He ran a jump wire from field to positive on the battery and it would charge. The new regulator was bad. I tried and had same results. A quick trip to the parts store and we are cooking with gas now. Guys thanks again for all the help and advise.

wow! what bad luck. what are the chances of having a bad regulator with a new alternator. glad you got it fixed.
