The footing guy just left. He dug up all my stumps for me. They laid out the footings and began digging, then uncovered 2 of my septic tag lines.

So for now he back filled the holes and the contractor has a call in to the septic people. Looks like I'm going to have to terminate these two lines then add two more across the bottom of the yard. After that maybe we can get some concrete in the ground.

That sucks about the septic lines. It was easy to tell where my septic system went- it is the only area where the grass grows during the summer.... Hopefully it will be able to be resolved easily.

Just turn/ angle them if possible. The drainfield can be crooked or have curves. If you can extend them as well. I used to permit septic tanks for SCDHEC in the Low Country years ago. Just make sure you have the proper fall and rock size for your soil conditions. You shouldn't need a permit if in SC for the drainfield changes. Just keep it far away from your well and property lines. Good luck!

Well a week after our latest 6" of snow and 1/4" of ice, I can see the ground again. Not much progress to report. But did get the stumps dug up before the weather set in. I still have one more tree to split up, but it is out of the way in the woods. Hopefully I can get my drain field modified before the next round of weather coming this Friday.

Well the septic contractors showed up this morning, trying to beat the next snow/rain arriving tomorrow. He reworked my leach field adding 192ft chambered system. He also drained the tank and had a minor repair to the filter housing. The inspector from the county could have been a real D!@%, but thankfully wasn't. The county ordinance requires 100% rework area for the drain field. I just used my rework area and terminated part of the original system.

So since I'm lucky enough to live on a great big patch of bull talor clay(same sticky stuff as in Uwharrie) and my original system was beginning to fail, the inspector approved all the work. He did question the size of my building and if I would shrink it to a standard 24x24, only 20ft of the original system would have to be terminated. I politely pointed to my truck, the fact of it being 22ft long, and I would like to be able to pull it in out of the weather.

Not to be too nosy, but have you already put an order in for the framing package? I am assuming you will be using roof trusses. I used to sell trusses before the 'recession' hit. I can have my old company quote you some trusses if you would like. I am no longer with them, but would be glad to help save you some money possibly.

The footing guy showed up Friday. I have footings dug! Passed the initial inspection and will have concrete here Monday around 10:30 am. Did I mention how much I hate this bull talor clay mud? Makes one heck of a mess. The footing guy tried to smooth out as much as he could, but ended up getting stuck and having to walk his track hoe out of the slick as owl poo mess.

Hopefully the weather will hold out for pouring today. are they just doing footings, or pouring a mono slab all at once? i did a mono slab on mine to save some time and money. building a block foundation a few courses high and framing off of that would have been better, but more expensive. they are good folks at Cozart. used to stop in there from time to time. they were in good with Piedmont Truss, if they are still around.
