Turn and Burn???
Home and cleaned up.... we need to do more of these!!!!

I had a great time. It was good seeing everyone. What a turnout - I never did a headcount but guessing 12 or 13?

Thanks for hosting it Charles - you have a great shop and some specialty tools I've got to find for my tool collection.

Hopefully the new lift will serve Chuck well. Thanks for letting us use your Bronco Chuck and hope ya'll have a safe trip home tomorrow!

Chuck had a take 3 on the return trip home. After he and Doug left this morning, they pulled right back in a few minutes later. The rear driveshaft was rubbing against a muffler. Got that straightened out. Not very long after I got a call that the right front caliper was sticking and that the rotor was glowing...

We got that fixed and they are on the road. Here are some pics of the day.

This group shows the Bronco on the lift and removing the 5.5" suspension and removing/painting the axles.

Did we mention that the front pads were to the rivets??? A run to the parts store for a several things (including brake pads) and we were back in business.

After that, the wheel bearings were replaced on one side. One rotor was replaced, along with a spindle bearing and axle joint. New C bushings were installed and the front axle was put back in place.

An adjustable track bar was used but it was for an earlier model. So, we had to come up with a solution requiring a different bolt and some washers welded up to the track bar mount.

Next the drag link was shortened, the steering and all the supension parts were installed and tightened. The center console was bolted in. About that time Nick got here and started cooking. It is hard to work when there was so much good smelling food being prepped.

That pretty much killed the momentum, but we were almost done. Chuck installed his Heep mirrors, and we called it a day!!

Huge thanks to all who came and made this day possible. Was a blast to work, eat, and hang out. It would be awesome to see this happen again!

We just got home. All is well. Steady 70mph all the way back. The Bronco suspension needs a couple of adjustments and the rear locker needs some love. I'll post some my pictures later. Thank you Charles for the great hospitality and to everyone that showed up and made the day a success.

Talked to Chuck about the locker. Sounds like it won't disengage. He said it was fine on the way up but on the way back is where he suddenly encountered the issue. It is my locker and I have been running it since 2003 with 35" tires and zero issues so I am stumped why it is suddenly malfunctioning. He told me the only thing that changed on the rear end was the pinion seal. I do not see how the torque of the pinion nut could have changed anything with the lockright. I hope we can figure this out tomorrow. I am in Raleigh and headed back to Charleston tomorrow. May turn out to be a long night.

Drive safe Chuzie!

The low country boil was off the chain!!! Had some leftovers tonight. Was just as good as last night. The cat agrees as well.

Perhaps the reason the locker isn't disengaging is that I put a mini spool in it when Chuck wasn't looking. The locker is here in the garage Big Grin Actually, I don't know why it isn't working right. On the lift it was disengaged and ratcheted just fine. Who knows...

On another subject, Chuck- you left your red jacket here. Also someone left a nice coffee mug here and I found a pair of large black Craftsman gloves on my lift. I have no idea who the gloves or the mug belong to.

Glad everyone got home ok. I think next year (if we want to have a next year), the Bronco will have to be trailered here and back. At least if it has as many issues as Chuckies Big Grin
