What's your funniest/scariest Bronco moments?

One that I recall was wrenching on some rusty hardware near the rear of the Bronco with Clay. We had the WD-40 out and the hot wrench (torch) to work on a particularly stubborn bolt. This bolt happened to be pretty close to a fuel line, so extra caution was needed. I was under the thing on a creeper while Clay was above, spraying the WD every now and again in between bouts of heating the bolt. Eventually it really lit up (Clay was spraying WD while I was heating). He later said he didn't know it was flammable. He was above, and I was underneath with a nice big fire going and, of course, no fire extinguisher nearby... Fortunately we are still around to wrench another day.

Flames plus WD-40 can lead to fire, but the fumes are extremely deadly.

Probably too many things to list but here are a few:

Had one of them fancy screw apart fule filters mounted above the engine really close to the carb, so I could see when the filter needed to be changed. Either I didn't tignten it down all the way or the thing was such a piece of crap (I tend to believe the latter) that on the maiden voyage after the first re-build with the fresh paint and all the filter decided to come apart and of course it caught fire. I didn't have an extinguisher in the truck at the time, but was close to the shop which had on extinguisher, so it didn't burn too long. It did burn up some wiring, melted the distributor cap a bit, and the hood had to be re-painted.

Was doing some body work and had a 3" cut-off wheel in my lap (no safety on the trigger) when I leaned over to pick up another tool the cut-off came to life and I got a nasty abraision burn on my stomach.

Another time I learned the hard way to ALWAYS tie up the driveshaft BEFORE removing the bolts. Caught the cardan joint almost in the left eye. I remember shutting my eyes and turning my head but when it hit I saw a bright flash and instant pain, I laid there for a bit to recover and when I finally opened my eyes I couldn't see out of my left one, fortunately it was just because it was full of blood and I couldn't see through it, once I wiped it out, I could see just fine. That one required a quick trip to the emergency center. Ended up with five stitches, a bad headache and a black eye for a few days.

There's also host of miscellaneous scrapes, cuts, burns from weld splatter and grinder slag in there as well. I guess when you say a Bronco is built with blood, sweat and tears, you're telling the truth.

Steering rag joint blew while going down the interstate at 80 Mph. I got lucky!

any chance you could explain that one to me? i never tie up a driveshaft. is this when the truck is on the trail and sitting with pressure on it?? that sounds scary!

one of my buddies who does construction was working on some flashing on a roof w/his dad. he had an angle grinder (was working on metal flashing) in his lap and did the same thing except he wasn't so lucky. he got cut open pretty good!

any chance you could explain that one to me? i never tie up a driveshaft. is this when the truck is on the trail and sitting with pressure on it?? that sounds scary!

I mean I put a bungie cord around it, or something before removing any of the the bolts from the yoke to keep it from falling. I was removing the rear driveshaft in the garage and started at the T-case end. I usually just kept a hand on it when removing it and just let it hang when removing ghe u-straps on the other end, This time just before I could get a good grip, the last bolt let go and it swung down and caught me in the eye.

Man, where do I start,
While showing off my truck for famly started it up (covered in plastic for paint) and found out it was in reverse as it backed into the garage door pushing it back 6".

After pulling the truck back into the shop noticed a candle size fire under it, the consol was out for repairs and a power wire from the radio shorted to the body and cought the whole console wiring on fire. Me in a hurry didnt bother grabing a fire extinguisher but a rag on the seat and got some minor burns on my fingers.

After blowing the rear gear and then blowing up a right Ujoint which poped the knuckle off the axle housing I drove it with a chain holding up the knuckle 5 miles too a store (driving on the left front axle only) and decided I should call a wrecker and not drive home on the highway.

Playing in a sand pit near my wifes parents I jumped the truck into a berm, jamed the throttle lincage wide open, broke the windshield brace off and bend much of the pedal sembly. In the same pit I hit a pole burried 2 feet deep in concret and didnt stop, bent the steering lincage and had to use the winch and highlift to fix it.

Got stuck next too my own driveway (and infront of my garage) in a snow bank trying too show off, blew the lock right and one hub.

Had a relay short out (smoke from under the hood) for the cooling fans while driving on the highway and pulled over too a rest area, threw the median to get there (at 65).

How about ironic, broke down prerunning in baja at a bend on a large hill on the race course, then broke down during the race at the same exact same spot!

Im sure there's more Liz can think of but thats the highlights.
