Yes, it could have been much worse. I am going to re-coup my ticket money by charging the company a "dot consultation" on how to get the company trucks and trailers up to snuff. Sounds good anyway but I'll never see that money again :crying:

He also said that if any of it was owned by a business he would have come down hard on me. Fortunately everything I had was "personal." That just means I really do need to try to persuade my family to make the changes on the company trucks and trailers though.

were you pulling a gooseneck trailer or bumper pull?
If you can't fix it with a hammer and a welder then your gonna need a new one!

If you can swing it get an attorney instead of paying the fine. When you pay the fine you admit to guilt and may come back later to haunt.

I tagged my F350 for 12k. The truck weighs 8k and my trailer 3k. I can up it to 13k before the rates jump to the next tier. NC only requires a safety inspection on older diesels, not sure if it would suffice for the Feds. And as for the trailer, I have never had it inspected and the shop that inspects my vehicles doesn't know any thing about trailers. Besides I usually inspect pretty good before any road tripConfusedcratchhe:.

had you been pulling a gooseneck you would have not been overweight. with a bumper pull trailer you are only alloted the weight of tag but with a gooseneck it ups the weight. or at least thats what ive been told.
If you can't fix it with a hammer and a welder then your gonna need a new one!

*** UPDATE 11/28 ***

Just got off the phone with somebody with State Transportation in Blythewood, SC. I questioned me being charged as a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) just b/c of my weight even though I individually own the truck, trailer, and tractor. He asked if I was in commerce - meaning was I on a "money-making" venture. I said "no, I was taking my tractor for my personal farm to a diesel mechanic to get worked on."

Blythewood is telling me that the officer who pulled me was in the wrong by giving me a Level 2 inspection if everything I had just told him was true (and it is!). He said just like has been said on here to not pay the fine yet until he investigates my report number so the citations I was charged do not stay on my record if they are false. He also said that the officer's superior would be calling me back today or tomorrow to discuss.

I was still at fault for being over weight and I understand that and will pay that fine. I will be getting a weight rated P-tag to solve that.

most ppl arent used to that...lets see your f250

Here in NC the only thing I was checked for by a DMV cop when I got pulled over was weight. I was overweight and got a ticket. They weigh you with EVERYTHING. Truck, trailer, spare tires, fuel, people, clothes, kitchen sink, etc.

Of course, you'll want to make sure all your lights work and everything, but I've never been 'inspected' on the side of the road. Just make sure you get a weighted tag that covers anything you might carry/tow.

BTW, my diesel title claims a truck weight of about 6k lbs. It actually weighs 7400. Just food for thought. I am now at 17k lbs GVW for my tag. Costs a mere $240/yr :rubeyes:
