As I tear Pe'pe apart I seem to find more things that need attention. After pulling the gas tank and rear shocks I found some rust issues with the tank. Since I never really needed a 32 gallon tank, and since I didn't really want to cut the floor for the tank or the rear shocks I scored a great deal on a WH rear shock hoop. In the pic you will see one shock hoop cover is missing, other than that its the whole kit for more than half off. I will still have to cut the body to install the hoop covers but at least its getting a welded in cover. The boots I used for the shocks did allow water to get in some times. I will be going with a larger than OE tank in a few months. I'm also building a swing out spare tire assembly with parts from a rear Harmar chair lift. Very similar to the bumper mount units on most web sites but this will be inside and allow access to the bed from the tailgate. I know many will ask "why not use a stock swing away holder"? Which I do have one, I really don't like them on the out side and I also prefer the look that I already have. Stay tuned for pics of that.
This tub was so bad when I went to lift it off I only cut 2 body bolts. It folded in half when I tried to lift it up. Not one part is really worth saving. The frame is going up to my friends place in silversprings, were going to make a rotisserie out of it.
The next step is to finish the body instillation and rear shock mounts. Then work on the cage tie in's.
I know I have been very quiet, we recently lost liz's brother. Things have been rough but I thought I would post a few pics of the
progress I had got done before things got crazy. The rear axle truss was welded on and the old shock mounts were cut off. I will paint it before I put it under the truck. Then add the shock mounts when I'm sure they will clear the springs.
I also screwed down the cage and am working on the frame tie ins. I'm using bushings to isolate the frame from the tub.
Welded the patches into the dash after I moved the glove box over 3" to clear the cage. The shock towers in the rear are in and the covers are in the tub. Working on the swing out spare tire assembly.
Love the swing out tire carrier. So did you screw down the cage or bolt it? :-D Let's throw down on this rig something and get pepe ready for some wheeling!
