Driveshaft help in Charleston.
#1
Im sure I could have just called around, but felt like I needed to post on the site since its been a while. My front driveshaft started making all kinds of racket the other day while hunting. I located the problem to the cv head insinde the cv collar. Figured I might as well replace all of the u-joints in the process. I was just wondering if there was somebody in Charleston area that uses quality products so that I dont have to pay the markup of the vendors. I have heard that CSR driveshafts does good work. Also trying to figure out if it would be worth the money to just upgrade to a whole new driveshaft. Thoughts???

there are 2 places to get shafts fixed...joint and clutch off cross county road can get you all the parts you need. ask for Larry and mention you are a member-they should give you a discount. be prepared, im sure larry will insist he fix it for you-but im sure you can do this. if it is a spicer CV, they have the spicer parts. i think the other place is on rivers at the corner of 526/rivers called allied-ive had shafts done there too.

Seriously?

Look, Larry and the folks and joint and clutch are crooks! If you leave your stuff there make absolutely sure you get every detail of what you want done in writing and take a copy with you. Otherwise, they will rebuilt the entire shaft and all its components and claim it was necessary to make it work and they will stick you with the bill or keep your shaft.

Go ahead and mention the CB discount. I think they will enjoy the good laugh.

Personally, I would snak a couple u-joints from the store and order the cv from a parts house. It is simple to fix and a lot cheaper. Anyone else will charge you more in labor than parts for that fix.

Any auto parts store can get you the parts to rebuild the shaft. Just be sure and marke the cv section to the rest of the shaft so you dont put it out of ballance. I personaly feel if the truck is lifted at all its worth the upgrade to a Tom Woods drive shaft. Once you put one of his shafts in you wont have any more problems.
