Not much to report. Been waiting for paint to get here. It is still just a bare frame and a ton of parts laying around.

While waiting, I did manage to fit up the electric wiper WS frame, using a new stainless hinge. I drilled the WS frame for 1/4 stainless countersunk Phillips screws and nuts. This way it will be removable if need be. Plans are to polish up the SST hinge and leave it unpainted, so it won't chip like they all do.

While there, I got the new radio antenna fit to the WS frame as well.

I was looking to do the same thing on the bolt-on SS hinge thing. For final assembly, would you apply seam sealer or regular RTv sealant to make it waterproof?

Missed this. Sorry Matt. I'm not going to use either. I'll use some foam as a gasket between the body/ws frame and hinge. I don't plan to keep the truck outside, so it won't be much of an issue. Seam sealer would be close to gluing the hinge in place. I want it to be easily removable if need be.


Well, the thread title is a complete lie right now. Why is that? Because she is in a million pieces. Can't get torn down much further than she currently is. I planned to build it up, drive it and change things as need be, then tear it back down and paint everything. With the onset of the carolina humidity, almost all of the bare metal started to flash rust. I would have a lot of cleaning/sandblasting/prepping before painting if I waited a while to get everything painted. That idea caused me to shudder, so apart she came and cleaned up for paint. The previous page showed the chassis all welded up and bare. Here are some pics of it with a new coat (or two).


The paint used is Southern Polyurethanes epoxy primer (black) and a top coat of their matte (hot rod) black. Stuff is very durable and sprays pretty easily. The matte black is super easy to work with. The epoxy primer takes a little more attention but is a great product. No, I'm not sponsored by them but I'm a fan of the stuff...

Got some stuff bolted back on. Wrenches are turning in the correct direction!

The rear leaf springs were torn back down and each individual leaf was painted. I added the 3rd leaf back in to raise the truck a little. The last 2 small springs are still omitted. It was sitting where I wanted it but would be too low with the bumper, soft top, tools, and all in it.

Rear axle is set in place and everything is tightened down. Rear brake lines are plumbed, and the truss brace and pinion guard are on but not tight. I need to get some new bolts for those. The ones I have aren't as long as I'd prefer. That's it for now. Just lots of sanding, cleaning, prepping and painting- ie the stuff I really hate.

That is an awesome semi floating D60, 4.10 ratio, posi. It was the axle under the Bronco when I got it. It could be stuffed with high dollar 35 spline axles and all kind of fancy stuff. You want to gamble on a purchase? Smile

I had to make a new strap for the 23 gal tank. The one I had was for a 2" body lift. It didn't want to work with the 1" body lift. The new one was fabbed from a 2.5" wide 1/8" thick piece of flat stock. I bent it up and gusseted the ends.

Also rebuilt the heater box using the Chevy conversion motor and a huge squirrel cage fan. I had to modify the opening a bit to make it fit and use some 1/2" plywood as a 'shim'. Got it all painted up and resealed. Put it all together using stainless machine screws and lock nuts and tested it. Might have went a little overboard, it sounds like my shop vac!

Another milestone- I bought a gallon of the finish color. Grabber blue! It was tough to find exactly what I wanted. Apparently some of the pigments used back in the 70's color aren't made any more. Found a Nason product that came out great! Used some to paint my radius arms. If you don't like it, bite my ankle. I'm a big fan! Only issue with it is that it doesn't show up well in pics. It is darker than it appears in the photo.

Yeah, the color is close to the newer Duff blue. Some might not be a fan but I am.

Chuzie, you say that in jest but there is a yellow top propped next to my workshop door...

She rolls again! Front brake lines are plumbed. Had to make a tab for the right front brake line. Of course it meant that some of the new paint had to be ground off the axle...

Got the rear axle pinion guard buttoned up with some new allen head bolts and got both diffs filled with gear oil and no leaks!
