I can see if a bad VR caused an overcharge the spewing could happen in which case they (Optima) may not cover in their warranty. I think if it was grounded out it would sooner melt the cables than make the battery puke. I honestly think you have a charging issue or overcharging issue to be exact.

All optimas are good batteries in my opinion. Blues are expensive as heck and are built to last in the harshest environments.

If push comes to shove and you have no choice in the matter I would look around town again to see if you can find this battery, purchase it and return the bad one after a day or two.

The last time I had a battery explode I lost my car to fire. Not fun.

Thanks Chuzie thats all I need right now is a fire...I like the idea of trying to find one local.

Could my cheapy batt. charger had caused an over charge?

Maybe a little test drive today.... umm.... I don't know the fire thing scares the SH*T out of me now.

I would strongly suggest taking an extinguisher or two. That was my mistake last time and water does jack on an out of control automotive electrical fire.

If your cheap batt charger did not know when to stop charging it would be similar to a bad VR. The end result would be the same; overflow.

I would first call Optima with a fake name and see what they have to say about it.

Wow! That is sweet. I figured they would tell you to shove it especially considering the cost of shipping on a battery. Talk about good customer service. Who did you go through?

Remember my wacky comment the other day about creating a halon extinguishing system under the hood? It was not completely unfounded. This is the reason why. Learning from experience sucks, especially when it burns your car to the ground.

John, glad to see you're getting a new one. I've had red top's in the past and never any problems. Did the acid-gel mess up your bronco badly?
