I would fix the efi, the tank pump is a pusher pump, the frame pump is the high press pump. Check your fuel press, at idle and 2400rpm. Let me know what it is and by then (not at my tool box right now) I'll have the spec for you. The egr was common to plug up and this can cause pinging and some loss of power. The combination of a bad high psi pump and a clogged egr could cause that symptom.

Not that I would ever do anything like this, but I have heard of guys taking the egr loose and putting a quater behind them to block them off.
Just for testing though. I am sure they fixed if they found it was causing problems.

Ok, PSI at idle is 30-31 PSI. At 2400 RPM same 30-31 PSI, but if I goose the throttle to get there it drops to around 27-28 PSI and slowly raises back up. Same 30-31PSI up through 4000 RPM.
EDIT: You can see here why I had to replace the EGR tube. The new one probably has about 20 or so miles on it currently.

What happens to the fuel pressure if you run the truck without the Vacuum line hooked up to the fuel pressure regulator?

I don't know how long the hose on your pressure gauge is, but if it is long enough tape it to the outside of the windshield and go drive it. Watch how far you can get it to drop under max load.
If it drops much below 30 it will effect performance. |
