Any on know if this is a 28 or 31 spline axle?
Also, can this rear be replaced with any full size 8.8 Bronco rear?
Thanks

31 spline
First instincts say yes, you can replace it with any year 8.8, but is your VSS in the 8.8 or your transfercase? Obviously, if it's in the 8.8 then you'll need another 8.8 that is equipped for a VSS. If it's in your transfercase then you're good to go with any rear end...even a 9".

VSS? Is that the extra ring gear behind the ring in the rear?
Also, what is the front rear, Dana 30, 35, etc. Thanks

F1504x2 Wrote:VSS? Is that the extra ring gear behind the ring in the rear? Yep, that's part of the VSS. The other is a sensor that is on top of the diff and reads the teeth of that gear as it spins. VSS is vehicle speed sensor. In my later year model, the VSS sends electronic pulses to the speedometer, there is no "cable". The truck also uses the VSS to determine the shift points for the E4OD transmission. F1504x2 Wrote:Also, what is the front rear, Dana 30, 35, etc. It's a high pinion Dana 44. "Reverse cut" or whatever you want to call it.

Oh yes, your '00 has the VSS too.
I would the part numbers were different, but the principle of how it operates should be the same...
