Running the slop at Uwharrie April 6
Posted by: johnski - 04-09-2008, 07:00 PM - Forum: Wheeling Events - Replies (17)

Hit Uwharrie last Sunday for a bit of an imprompu run. After a week of consistent rain, it was treacherous. Once that carolina clay gets a good layer of rain, it's a whole new world at Uwharrie. It was, by far, the most fun I've had wheeling there.
Doc was my co-pilot and one helluva spotter. I was the only bronco with my buddy Ian in his built TJ and a few guys I met through nc4x4.com in a tubed out yota hybrid, an XJ, and one insanely built YJ on 42's and tons that was featured in Peterson's recently. All very good people that I would wheel with again in a heartbeat.

Didn't take a ton of pics as I was having too much fun to get out of the vehicle and bother with the camera. Got a few vids, too.

Actually had to bust out the winch. He was running too much psi and aired down even more after that...

Video of him winching. You get a good idea of how slick it was out there...

And a vid of me getting hung up at the same spot. My heavy ass did not want to get up over that thing. This is shortly before the u-joint and ears on my passenger side front axle took a dump. You'll hear me tell Doc to cut the video at the very end. I didn't want any more documentation of my failure.

Here's pics of me from the Carolina Broncos weekend back in November crawling that exact same spot when it was dry. This really gives you an idea of how different it can be...

I must tell you, that toyota saved my day. He snatched and dragged me over 3 spots, including the one above, and it especially came in handy once I was in 3-wheel drive. I am a believer in the yota power. It was impressive. I just wish my M12000 was on the truck and not sitting on the workbench. It definitely would've seen some use.

Here's the carnage. One axle/joint and some new body damage to the rear quarter. Damn tree got in my way.
