If you're going to chop it up don't worry about the fender. It's going to end up looking like a rejected can of kraut any way. If you can swing the money, go for some after market heads and then replace the gaskets. The heads on that year model were prone to crack, not some but most all of'em. Sounds like you've got some plans all laid out. Forget the looks of the beast and go for reliability. Looks can come later after you get tired of getting your guts shook out on trails. There's lots of info on <www.broncoII.org> check'em out!:xyxthumbs:

On the Gen 1's 1988 & older 31's will create a problem unless ya install that lift. 89 & 90 Gen 2's can run 31X10.50's on stock rims with out any issues. I know this to be a fact as I have an 87 gen1 and an 89 gen2. And have tried many tire and wheel combos on both. The 89 would stuff the 31's with stock wheels but when I went to 8" M/T classics I had to install a 4" lift. Now I never trimed the fendrs or quarters they are still very much intact and stock.
