Just finished rebuild, have one last issue

Hi all,

Well my truck is finally on the road, 1975 Bronco. Just a little back ground on it;

Purchased in January with a bad motor, blow by and ridiculous oil psi and overheating issues.

I found a Ranchero with a remaned Jasper 302 with low miles, bought the whole car and put the motor in. Started pulling rocker arm studs so we swapped the original heads which I'm not sure what they are but they look a hell of a lot burlier than stock. We obviously swapped the cam too which turned out to be a performance cam.

Then we couldn't get the timing right. Weird stuff going on, arc outside of the coil which was a beat up mallory coupled with a beat up jacobs ignition and a stock distributor.

I replaced it all with MSD components and Ford racing wires. Fired right up and dialed in the timing as best we can by ear. I'm getting an inductive light today to make it perfect but here's my issue;

It runs strong but seems like there's a fuel issue or maybe it's just an advanced timing issue? I dunno, it does have trouble starting when hot. It also starts to stutter and cut out if I step on it, sometimes when I'm just cruising too. Doesn't seem to be heat related cause it'll do it at 160 or 210. I also can't quite tell if it's RPM related cause I have no tach or speedo (I will soon).

I have the BC Broncos 23 gal rear tank and the guy at advance sugested that it sounds like vapor lock so I put a jeep fuel filter behind the intake near the fire wall and ran a return line back to the tank. Almost seems worse after that. I'm not sure what the other vent runs to. I'm about to go open it right at the tank and see if that helps. I also have a Holley blue electric pump that is supposedly pumping 14psi. Do I need a low pressure pump too? Should I re-route the fuel lines or insulate them? Pressure regulator?

Any ideas would really help, I have to tow my motorcycle to GA Monday and I'll be driving to Montana in about 2 weeks.

Can't help with everything but: 14 psi is too much for a carb. Get a regulator and bring it down to around 7. Probably trash on the pick up in the tank. Pain to change but necessary. Should have a 180* thermostat. 210* is way too hot for a small block Ford. GM runs there. Mine runs around 170 on a 180 thermostat, stock fuel pump and a Truck Avenger carb with no problems.
