On the Gen 1's 1988 & older 31's will create a problem unless ya install that lift. 89 & 90 Gen 2's can run 31X10.50's on stock rims with out any issues. I know this to be a fact as I have an 87 gen1 and an 89 gen2. And have tried many tire and wheel combos on both. The 89 would stuff the 31's with stock wheels but when I went to 8" M/T classics I had to install a 4" lift. Now I never trimed the fendrs or quarters they are still very much intact and stock.
