Your plan sounds good, I would skip the 4.0, not a great motor. If you like to use the skiny pedal, and will be turning high rpms, try a 302 turned into a stroker. Full roller motor.

Welcome! Let's see some pics of that bronco. Floor pans are easy to patch if it's going to be a trail rig. I don't recommend the 4.0 either - go 5.0 or if you're up for the challenge do the 4.6 DOHC.

The 4.0 is not an option if you like to kick the skinny pedal!! Go 302 or as Broncomatt said, stroke it and roller it!! Welcome to the gang!!
