Ok we have a problem, my sons 1990 Bronco 302, AOD, with SAS, 4:88âs, and 38â tires.
He went to the beach this weekend running 60-65 mph on the interstate, got there with no problems. Coming home the with truck it start shifting funny, it would not shift into 3rd until it hit 3000-3500 rpm it also would not pull its own weight in overdrive climbing small grades on the interstate. He said if he gave it more gas it felt like it was slipping or just not accelerate. I checked the trans. Fluid and it smells fine, has good color, and no metallic in it. The fluid and filter was changed last year.
The truck just started to have this problem, out of no were!!
shifted 1st to 2nd around 3200rpm
shifted 2nd to 3rd around 3500rpm
when in 2nd if he lifted off the gas the truck would drop to idel rpm
when in 3rd if he lifted off the gas the truck would not drop any rpm's
Besides the shifting problems he had anti freeze pushing out of the overfill bottle, not a lot but some.
We had to pull the distributor to replace the ignition module so I know the timing is not exact but close, could this have anything to do with our shifting problem?
I was told to check the throttle pressure cable the runs from the throttle body to the transmission, but everything looks fine.
Is there anything I can check? Any ideas?
Thanks, John
