If it were me, a new one for 1k would be better than a used one for $700. Now, if the new one is actually a rebuilt one, i'd just go with the used one. 88k doesn't sound bad, as long as it was not abused or run low on oil.

they could be had with a sm465 chevy 4 speed also(very rare)
the 4500 dont shift like a np435 dump truck. my dodge had a 4500 and i could shift the heck outa it. this 3550 feels bout the same.
both came be upgraded to a short throw shifter too
