I'd say the workday was a great success! I'd guess about 60-70 volunteers showed up. They broke all of us into 3 groups. We (4 of us: Clay, Will (clay's friend), Jay, and I) went with the group going to Art Lilley campground/trailhead area (by the mudhole at the Falls Dam trailhead). Our job was to plant seed around a fair bit of the parking area. Some contract work was done there, and they left it a mess. We raked, cleared, fertilized, seeded, and threw hay down. It went very well. A few Zuwarrie folks fixed a section of wooden railing that was knocked down. We finished a little after lunch time. From there, we headed to the Wolf Den trailhead to assist with putting some wooden railing up there. Got a lot done!
FYI, I talked with Terry about Dutch John, as it is our sponsored trail. It sounds like the April 20 work day will be heavily focused on Dutch John. Overall it sounds like the trail is in good shape but they want to do some fixing of some of the log stream crossings like we did 2 years ago. That was hard work. I'm up for it but would like to see how many of you might be able to make it. Other than that, I have been speaking with the CORE president, as they co-adopted Dutch John along with us. They are doing a spring ride April 7 and will be doing trail clean up, so hopefully there won't be much trash on it the following week when we are there. If this is the case, we might want to split up on Sunday to broaden our clean up efforts. Food for thought.
I have some pics of our efforts yesterday on my phone. I'll try and upload them somehow.
